Unmasking Brain Injury

Virtual Experience

Friday, October 30th, 3:00 — 5:00 PM (Arizona Time)

Marc's Mask
Type of Brain Injury

SEVERE TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY (TBI). I sustained a TBI by falling down a flight of stairs at the Arlington T stop (subway) in Boston on July 11, 2008.

Explanation of Marc’s Mask

This mask simply encapsulates a lot of my life, post-injury, as I continue on the

arduous road with unlimited faith in He who saved my life. As I went through extensive rehabilitation in MA and AZ, my faith in God grew even stronger. While I have memory difficulties, vision problems, and tingling on the left side of my body, I overcame these obstacles by looking at the positive side of life.

On my mask, the broken glass represents my TBI. An artistic feather shows my love of art.  The green B shows my love of Boston, my experiences at Fenway Park, while illustrating that it is always on my mind.

After my injury, I rediscovered my love for building Legos, painting beautiful works of art, and both working at and going to the theater.   Most importantly, the cross represents my faith deeply rooted in love for Jesus Christ and God Almighty!!!

Join us for our second Virtual Unmasking experience!

This is part of a national project for brain injury survivors and family members which BIAAZ has participated in for the past 2 years. To learn more about the project you can visit their site: Unmasking Brain Injury

We can send you a mask kit in the mail to join us on the day of the event, but you’ll need to request it no later than Monday, October 25th to ensure you get it in time. The kits are free, but we gladly accept donations. You’ll receive a blank mask and an Unmasking packet with all your instructions in the mail as well as some pre-planning pages. You may want to shop for a few art supplies, you can see our list of suggested items here: (pdf link added here?) Some craft stores will ship directly to you or do a curbside pickup to avoid going into a store.
